Teeth Grinding Relief
Teeth grinding and jaw clenching is a condition referred to as bruxism, and it can occur at any age and for various reasons. Bruxism can lead to tooth wear and breakage, which can alter your bite (occlusion), ultimately causing TMJ disorder — a condition that can have debilitating symptoms.
It is important to stop bruxism so that the teeth and bite remain strong and healthy. We can repair the teeth, but if grinding still occurs, any new dental work will become worn and broken.
We may recommend an oral appliance to prevent teeth grinding and clenching. Many people experience bruxism while sleeping, and an oral appliance, or nightguard, can protect teeth against damage. A variety of nightguards and daytime appliances are available to keep teeth intact.
At your consultation, we will assess tooth wear, recommend an appliance to eliminate bruxing, and rebuild any compromised teeth to restore your bite to the optimal position.
